The people who enjoy a conference the most are the people who network, meet others, learn new things, make friends.

Conference of Editors Association of Canada wants PLAIN members to attend.
This will be one of the poster sessions at the conference.
Challenges in the Defense of the Use of Plain Language in Brazil
Cristina Yamazaki and Yuri Brancoli
In Brazil, only 27% of the adult population is fully literate (2011). Therefore, most documents in circulation are written in a language that is inaccessible to most of the Brazilians.
The poster will present obstacles to simpler language and some opportunities and efforts to spark a public debate on plain language in the country.
You can meet this group of editors and researchers who have spent over 20 years defending the use of plain language on projects developed for public organs, companies and NGOs.
"What is a Cracker Barrel? The term dates back to pioneer days when the local community gathered around a real cracker barrel to swap news of farming improvements, animal care, and household remedies. Our Cracker Barrel sessions are little more structured. Participants explore a variety of (highly condensed) topics by circulating among the tables whose topic s are of greatest interest to them."
That's what I.S.P.I. Vancouver calls the sort of session that we have called a Round Robin. Who knew there were so many terms for the same thing. I.S.P.I. is the International Society for Performance Improvement.
We are going to give you a list of our Cracker Barrel speakers very soon. Keep checking back here.
The PLAIN 2013 Conference committee is delighted to announce we have four major sponsors so far for our October 10 - 13 conference in Vancouver:

2. Simon Fraser University
3. Wordsmith Canada (Christine Mowat)
4. Plain English Foundation of Australia (Neil James).
